Longtown and Brecon Mountain Rescue Teams were called to rescue the vulnerable 79-year-old
MOUNTAIN rescue teams were called to rescue an elderly man on the lower hills of Sutton St Nicholas earlier this morning.
Longtown and Brecon Mountain Rescue Teams joined the South and Rescue Dog Association (SARDA) to try and find the vulnerable 79-year-old after he failed to return from a walk near the village yesterday.
He was eventually found at 3.35am this morning and taken to Hereford County Hospital for further assessment.
“It was a four hour search and the weather conditions helped as it was such a mild night,” said Mike Jones, search manager at Longtown Mountain Rescue Team (LMRT).
“We are just thankful the gentleman was found safely.
"The majority of our call outs are to help local people who are missing or injured.”
The rescue was LMRT’s seventh call-out in the space of a week.
“We are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but even for us this has been an exceptionally busy week,” added Mike.
