Post office offers longer hours and more services
9:00am Monday 30th September 2013 in News
LONGER opening hours are just one benefit to the community served by the newly-refurbished Newent Post Office.
Forest of Dean MP Mark Harper declared the new-look facility in Church Street open with a cutting of the ribbon ceremony earlier this month. He said: “It will make a real difference for the community.” The post office continues to have three serving positions, but these are now a mixture of two screened counter positions and a post office serving point at the retail counter.
This is a new concept for delivering post office products and services alongside retail transactions.
Sub-postmaster Helen Gunning said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to modernise the branch.
“Selected post office products and services are available from the retail till and the branch is open on Saturday afternoons which will be a great help to busy customers.”
Post Office corporate affairs manager David McConnell said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in the area and I am confident that this new modern post office will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the post office network to new-style branches and this investment, the largest in the history of the post office, makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
The branch is open Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 5.30pm, an increase of five hours a week, with the branch remaining open on Saturday afternoons.
