A 90-MILE cycle around Herefordshire’s market towns saw more than £600 raised by a county mayor.

Chris Bartrum, mayor of Ross-on-Wye, got on his bike to raise the funds for his chosen local charity the Basement Youth Trust – which provides activities and a safe place to be for young people aged 11 to 19.

He cycled anti-clockwise through the county, greeted by the town mayors in Hereford, Leominster, Kington, Ross-on-Wye, Bromyard and Ledbury.

“It went really well. I’d done all but five miles by Wednesday when I got a blow-out on one of my tyres but I did the remaining five miles this week (Monday October 7),” he said.

“I was also put up for the night by the mayors in Bromyard and Kington and when I arrived in Leominster there was a whole group of people that had turned out to greet me which was a nice surprise.”

Mr Bartrum raised £620 for the charity which he said does “great work” with young people in Ross.

He added that he was very grateful to everyone for the support.
