Interest in town hotel
3:20pm Tuesday 15th October 2013 in News
MARGARET Thatcher’s favourite Worcestershire hotel has attracted a flood of interest since being put on the market.
But the company handling the sale says it is still “very early days” and any sale of the Cottage in the Wood in Holywell Road, Malvern, is still some way off.
As we reported, owners John and Sue Pattin have put the hillside hotel on the market for an asking price of close to £2 million as they prepare for retirement after running the business for 26 years.
They welcomed Baroness Thatcher as a frequent guest following the death of her husband Denis in 2003.
Her assistant Cynthia Crawford, from Worcester, took her there to relax and the former Prime Minister fell in love with the Cottage in the Wood, regularly spending five days at a time there over the ensuing years until ill health made it impossible.
Specialist property adviser Christie and Co is handling the sale and head of media relations Peter Fermoy said: “It is very early days just yet.
“There has been plenty of interest, as you would imagine, but we’ll have to wait and see how many offers that translates into.”
