AN appeal is being launched to bring the sound of church bells back to Marden.
The bells at St Mary’s Church have been silent since a 2006 inspection revealed serious problems including a rotting oak beam supporting the cast iron bell frame.
The Parochial Church Council now has ambitious plans to restore the bells to working order, improve disabled access, and to provide a useful space for church and community use.
It has been estimated that the total cost of the project will be around £95,000.
The official launch of the appeal takes place at St Mary’s at 3pm on Sunday (October 20).
This will also be a celebration of the completion of the ‘Raise the Roof’ project as the church's new roof is now complete.
