A GROUP that organises events for the county’s gay community looks set to close at the end of the month.

Char Carter, aged 32, set up Herefordshire Pride two-and-a-half years ago in a bid to kick-start events for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

However Char, from Hunderton, Hereford, said the group will close on October 31 unless more people come forward to offer support.

She said: “We really need a group secretary and treasurer, or if anyone wants to come and just join the group in general as a fundraiser then I want to hear from them.

“If not I will have to close it as it’s too much work to do on my own.”

Char said that up to 500 people previously attended the group’s events but administration costs mean she cannot continue.

“Another problem is finding venues,” she added.

“We will get property owners or landlords that won’t let us use their venue because we are an LGBT group.

“Herefordshire isn’t always up with the times with these things.”

In addition to holding events, the group has also given advice to people of all ages.

Char said: “It would be really sad for us to go as there are supposed to be around 5,000 members of the LGBT community living in the county and I don’t know of any other group out there for them.”
