Pub conversion decision delay
10:00am Saturday 19th October 2013 in News
PLANS to convert a former country pub near Ledbury into a six-bedroom home remain in the balance.
Herefordshire Council’s planning committee agreed to defer a decision on whether to change the Slip Tavern at Much Marcle into residential use.
The plan attracted a lot of opposition with 36 letters and emails sent to the Herefordshire’s planning department.
A 150-signature petition was also submitted against the change, while Camra (Campaign for Real Ale) believes the Slip Tavern “has the potential to be attractive to tourists” and shouldn’t become a home.
Trading figures sent to Herefordshire Council by the applicant show annual turnover has more than halved in just four years, going from £155,000 in 2008 to £71,000 last year.
The application was recommended refusal by planning officers.
Among the reasons for recommending refusal, the council said the length of the marketing period has been inadequate and a “reasonable offer” for the pub had been rejected.
