Muddy hell – mayor set for charity run
2:50pm Friday 18th October 2013 in News
LEDBURY’S youngest ever mayor is to achieve another first by taking part in the gruelling Mudrunner challenge for charity on Sunday.
Councillor Terry Widdows, aged 33, has lost two stone since beginning training in early August and he has become a familiar figure, pounding the town trail by the river Leadon and making use of the exercise equipment on the Recreation Ground.
He said: “People should try it. Exercise is a major stress reliever and it is good for you.
“My family tell me it’s done me the world of good and I shall keep up the fitness regime afterwards.”
He goes running three times each week and usually tackles a 6km circuit “to have fun and see some sights”.
But Coun Widdows will not tackle the seven-mile Eastnor circuit for fitness alone because he hopes to raise at least £250 for his chosen Mayoral Charity – the Megan Baker House – a county-wide charity based in Leominster that offers free conductive education for disabled children.
Coun Widdows said: “People can sponsor me by either filling in a sponsorship form that is available at the town council offices or Boots the opticians in The Homend.
“Or if they wish they can donate online to my just giving page at justgiving.com/ Ledbury-mayor2013.
