Attempted burglary of elderly woman's home in Wellington
4:57pm Friday 25th October 2013 in News
POLICE have arrested a man on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a burglary at an elderly woman's Wellington home.
The woman, who is in her 80s, was asleep in her living room at around 11.15pm when she was disturbed by a man who demanded money from her.
It is alleged that he then searched the property, which is off Bridge Lane, before leaving empty handed.
Detective Inspector Martyn Barnes said: “Although the woman was left extremely shocked by this incident, thankfully the man made no threats of violence towards her and did not steal anything from the property.
“However, we are treating this incident seriously and we have already taken prompt action by arresting one man on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary in connection with this offence.
"He has since been released on police bail while we continue to investigate this incident.
“Officers have been in the area today carrying out inquiries and reassurance patrols, and I would appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious people or vehicles in the area of Bridge Lane yesterday evening to call us on 101, quoting reference 760S 241013.”
