STAFF at a Leominster hospital have been thanked for going the "extra mile".

A team of nurses from Leominster Community Hospital and a County Hospital midwife have given an award for their exceptional patient care.

Patients and their relatives nominated the team, saying that care from staff was "amazing, brilliant and very supportive".

Sarah Hollihead, sister at Leominster Community Hospital, said: “We’re delighted to receive this award and most importantly to get such positive feedback, which highlights that we are providing the best care possible for our patients and their relatives”.

The extra mile awards are given out monthly by Wye Valley Trust for exceptional performance.

Michelle Clarke, director of nursing and quality at Wye Valley NHS Trust, said: "The extra mile nurses are prepared to go never ceases to impress me.

"Each and every one of our patients is unique and the way our nurses adapt to individual needs is something that cannot be taught in the classroom or learned from a book - it is something that comes from a deep rooted sense of compassion, care and understanding.”
