VOLUNTEERS at the county's Citizens Advice Bureau are urging people to sign a petition against a proposal to withdraw local government funding.

At an event to celebrate winning volunteer team of the year, Herefordshire CAB reflected on the vital role of volunteers in the provision of its advice service.

This resource would be lost to the county should the organisation lose its annual grant from Herefordshire Council.

“Being crowned volunteer team of the year back in June was really exciting for us, and wonderful recognition of all the skill, expertise and hours of time our volunteers give to the service” said Brian Roe, chair of Trustees.

“Yet this precious service of which we are all so proud is under threat because of Herefordshire Council’s proposal to withdraw our grant funding.

"I would urge people to show support for such an important local charity and sign our petition against the proposal to withdraw our grant funding.”

At the celebratory event, special mention was also made of Margaret King and John Leeuwangh who were leaving the service after 37 and 23 years respectively.

We would like to point out that the CAB's annual grant from Herefordshire Council is £117,460 per annum and not £177,000 as reported previously.
