A CYCLIST who died following a crash with a car in Newent has been named.

Hugh Fairgrieve, aged 37, of Meek Road, Newent, was riding his bike on Glasshouse Hill at about 3.30pm on Sunday, December 8 when he collided with a grey Volkswagen Passat.

He was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital with life threatening head injuries and subsequently transferred to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, but later passed away.

The driver of the car was unhurt.

The road was closed until 6.30pm while a collision investigation took place.

Anyone who witnessed the crash but hasn't spoken to police should call 101, quoting incident 289 of December 8.
