A COUNTY funeral director has been 'overwhelmed' with the response to its recent campaign to help Hereford Food Bank.

Dawe Brothers Funeral Director, who have offices in Hereford and Ross-on-Wye, launched the 'Buy One, Give One' campaign before Christmas, hoping people would donate the 'free' item in any 'buy one get one free' deal to the food bank.

As a result of the campaign, several large boxes of donated goods are ready to be distributed to the people who need them most.

Senior funeral director Gill Stamp-Hedley praised the people of Herefordshire for their generosity.

"Not a day has gone by since we launched the campaign that we haven’t had someone coming into the branch with a donation, whether it’s been one tin of beans or a shopping bag full of groceries. We have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of local people, and we’ve received an incredible amount of donations, in both our branches.

"We’ve been delighted to be able to support the Hereford Food Bank during such a demanding time of the year. While the pressures of Christmas have started to subside, we want local people to remember that the Hereford Food Bank still needs regular donations."

Due to its success, Dawe Brothers is extending its campaign and will still be accepting donations.

Donations can be delivered to Dawe Brothers on 40 Holme Lacy Road, Hereford or visit the branch on Gloucester Road in Ross-on-Wye to give to the Ross-on-Wye Community Larder.
