Hundreds of registered carers in the county are being offered free flu vaccinations

Herefordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is this week pressing carers to take up the NHS offer.

Dr Andy Watts, CCG Clinical Lead, said the offer was not just about preventing carers from getting flu, but also about preventing carers passing the virus onto the vulnerable person they care for.

"Unlike other medication for long term conditions, the flu jab is an annual one-off vaccine.  The flu vaccine changes every year to fight the latest strains of flu, so even if you had a jab last winter you need another one this year to stay flu safe," said Dr Watts.

Jacqui Bremner, Director of Herefordshire Carers Support (HCS) said:  “Carers will often put their own health before that of the person they care for. This is a good example of where the prevention of ill health benefits both, and why carers should always let their GP know they are in a caring role.”
