THE recent exhibition, The Company of Heaven, featuring more than 120 interpretations of angels by 60 renowned artists, at Kingsland’s St Michael & All Angels Church realised sales of nearly £12,000. Twenty per cent of proceeds donated to SMAAAK, the Friends organisation raising money for the restoration of Kingsland Church.

“We are delighted the exhibition proved such an outstanding success, said curator Charles McCarthy. "This is a tribute to the sheer calibre and imagination of the participating artists and also their great generosity”.

And the stolen Angel? Every cloud has a silver lining. Local artist Mary Stephens created another, which sold immediately. Its new owner Councillor Sebastian Bowen is thrilled with his acquisition. “It’s marvellous to own such an object of beauty created by an extremely talented local artist”.

For those who missed the exhibition, it can be seen online at smaaak.tumblr.com/

Fundraising activities for the restoration appeal continue with If the Shoe Fits, a delightful dance theatre show for all the family performed by the Cscape Dance Company on Sunday 23 February at the Kingsland Coronation Hall. Future events include the highly acclaimed Field Notes and PopUp Opera’s Cosi fan Tutte.

The appeal to date has raised over £15,000. For more information go to www.smaaak.co.uk
