Robot switchboard for Powys council
A NEW robotic switchboard will greet Hay-on-Wye callers looking to get in touch with their councillors.
The system, which will handle thousands of calls each week, will save Powys County Council around 35p per caller.
The service – on 01597 826000 – will redirect callers using voice recognition technology, and save people holding for a human operator.
Similar switchboards are already in use by cinemas and a number of NHS organisations – but, for the traditionalists, there will still be the option of speaking to an advisor.
