STUDENTS at a county school have been given a lesson in EU politics.

Anthea McIntyre, MEP for the West Midlands, visited Lucton School recently to give a talk on the European Union.

The Herefordshire-based MEP met with students studying history and politics to discuss her journey into politics and her work in various committees.

Rachel Phillips, history teacher at Lucton School, said: “We were absolutely delighted that Miss McIntrye could join us. It was fascinating to get a first-hand insight into the role of an MEP and the day-to-day workings of the European Parliament.”

Miss McIntyre is as a member of the agriculture committee, the civil liberties, justice and home affairs committee and finally the employment committee – for which she is the UK Conservative spokesperson in the European Parliament.

She said: “It was a pleasure speaking to pupils at Lucton School and I was very impressed with their interest in Europe and their understanding, evidenced by the challenging questions they asked.”
