Gary Stretch has been convicted of attempted murder in relation to one of last April's Hereford stabbings perpetrated by serial killer Joanna Dennehy.

Following three days of deliberation, a jury at Cambridge Crown Court this afternoon unanimously found Stretch, originally from Kington, guilty of attempting to murder Hereford man John Rogers.

Mr Rogers was stabbed multiple times by Dennehy while walking on a footpath off Hereford’s Golden Post, and told the jury himself that he thought he was going to die.

The seven-foot Stretch, 47, was also found guilty on three counts of preventing the lawful and decent burial of Dennehy’s three victims in Cambridge.

The jury are still deliberating a further attempted murder charge in relation to the stabbing of Hereford postman Robin Bereza, and are expected to deliver a majority decision tomorrow.

Leslie Layton Layton, 36, of Bifield, Orton Goldhay, was also found guilty of perverting to the course of justice.
