A NEW group has launched to support people in Ledbury suffering with or recovering from cancer.

Ledbury Cancer Buddies opened last month in an effort to improve services for those with the disease and their families.

Chairman Peter Jackson said: “I have first-hand experience of being diagnosed with cancer and it can be a difficult and isolating time in your life, so it’s very important that people have access to the right support locally”.

The group, which follows in the footsteps of a similar group set up in Hereford last year, is hoping to appoint a secretary and is looking for a suitable venue for its monthly meetings.

Macmillan cancer information and support facilitator at Wye Valley NHS Trust Alison Stemp said: “We’re delighted that these cancer support groups have been established, which together with local healthcare services provide a holistic approach to empower people to feel in control of their health and wellbeing.

"If you would like to set up a new cancer support group where you live please get in touch with us by calling on 01432 355 444 ext 5459.”
