LEDBURY looks set to enjoy a drier weekend after surface water caused problems for motorists last week.

Regular flooding black spot Malvern Road proved to be too deep for one driver, when a Ford Fiesta became stranded in the floodwater on Saturday, February 15.

Town photographer Barry Tweed-Rycroft said: "This is a black spot for floods but you don't usually get cars stranded, however it is a lot deeper than usual."

Though, one site that stayed dry this year was Ledbury Rugby Club after recently installed flood defences passed their first test.

Floods have plagued the club for years, as their base on playing fields off Ross Road is close to the river Leadon, with the problem being highlighted in 2007 when 2ft of water entered the club house, causing thousands of pounds of damage.

Following fund-raising, new defences were installed and club director Wynne Rogers said the barriers now allow him to “sleep easy at night”.

The Met Office forecast for today is predicting a relatively sunny start with cloud building through the morning with a risk of showers developing which could be heavy in places.

It will feel cold in fresh southwesterly winds with a maximum temperature of 8C.

The outlook from tomorrow (Saturday) to Monday is windy throughout but should see a dry and bright start to the weekend, but clouding over later, with some patchy rain coming overnight into Sunday.

The rain looks set to become heavier on Sunday afternoon, with sunshine and showers on Monday.

The work of Dave Throup, the Environment Agency's manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, during the recent floods has been hailed on Twitter, with Ross-on-Wye councillor Andrew Atkinson setting up a fan club in his honour.
