IT is the end of an era for Hereford’s Hunderton neighborhood as demolition workers have begun tearing down flats on Beattie Avenue ahead of a major redevelopment project.
Demolition Environmental Services began work this week on levelling a total of 194 flats, with the first new properties set to be completed by the summer.
With Broxash Drive and The Oval next in line for a facelift, the project is aiming to “change the negative perception of the area”, according to its community plan.
Eventually 259 new units will take the place of the flats.
And councillor Glenda Vaughan-Powell insisted that all former Beattie Avenue tenants have “been offered and taken other accommodation elsewhere relevant to their needs”.
