THE first piece of a £9m revamp of Halo’s big five Herefordshire facilities will begin next month, and be completed by November.

The project – a major upgrade in leisure facilities across the county – has yet to be given a finish date, but the majority of work is set to be completed by summer 2015.

First in line for an overhaul is Leominster Leisure Centre – one of the facilities described as ‘tired’ by gym-goers – with construction expected to last 32 weeks.

The new North Herefordshire centre, featuring a larger gym, new changing facilities and a extensive spa area, is due to be completed by November and will remain open during the building project.

The biggest refurbishment will happen at Hereford Leisure Centre, Halo’s largest county facility and a key money-maker for the non-profit organisation.

Work there – including the creation of a specialist centre for gymnastics in the county – will run from August until April 2015.

Next up will be Ross’ Swimming Pool, set for a similar revamp to Leominster but with the addition of a new exercise studio, with work starting in September and finishing in June 2015.

The centre will close temporarily during construction.

The redevelopment of Ledbury Swimming Pool is currently slated to last between 36 and 55 weeks, with plans held up by nearby building projects, while work at Hereford’s Leisure Pool – including the creation of a moveable floor in the diving pool to support swimming lessons – is also yet to be given a start date.

You can follow the progress on Halo’s website, or on each of the centres’ respective Facebook pages.

Moan Whine Whinge Complain, I have never know a group moan so much about anything and everything that goes on in Hereford, people here must be THE most negative I have ever known.

Been reading this forum for a long time but now I think its time to shake things up an annoy the resident complainers, its the same old few, all entitled to their opinions of course but how nice it would be for just once for them to find something agreeable.

If Herefords so bad, and trust me, it aint, then leave and don't let the door hit you up the **** on the way out.

Oh and by the way, I think the new look Leisure centre looks great and its a long time coming.

Plus, cant wait for the OLM to open as well, will be great and its not as ugly as what was there before it.

There, that should put the cat among the pigeons.

Sport and leisure is a vital part of society-an investment to encourage health and well-being for the people, but, it must be economically viable.

Well said. Dementinator, its about time someone stood up to the NIMBYs and moaning minnies on here.

A welcome investment for the young and not so young who wish to keep fit and not sit at their computers making facile comments about the Council, the Government and any one else they regard as the 'THEY' who are blamed for everything nowadays..
