A GROUP of county firefighters are swapping hard hats and protective clothing for short skirts and ribbons - all for a good cause.

The fire crews from Fownhope will take a break from putting out flames and get soapy for a charity car wash.

It is hoped the event will raise more than £2,000, which will be split between Hereford breast cancer support centre, The Haven, and The Fire Fighters Charity.

They will be at Wye Leisure in Fownhope on Easter Monday and will be joined by volunteers from The Haven and Wye Leisure, who will be dressed as firefighters, to serve coffee and cakes made by Sally Gordon.

Lesley Leach, community fund-raiser for The Haven, said: "We are really grateful to the firefighters for their support. It is so brave of them to dress like this to raise awareness of The Haven and the services we offer, and we hope people will be extra generous with their donations when they see them.

"Mind you, if I had legs like some of these chaps, I would wear such short skirts too.”

The event will run from 9am to 5pm.
