AFTER more than 50 years of creating his own personal works of art, a Hereford man hopes his collection of more than 100 paintings will now put a smile on other people’s faces.

Colin Stanley Jones said he has always had a paintbrush in his hand, which he has put to use for work and leisure over the years.

After setting up his own sign-writing business, C Stanley Jones and Co in Hereford in 1953, he painted signs for businesses all around the county.

But it was only after he retired eight years ago that Colin could spend time pursuing his favourite pastime.

“I was brought up with a paintbrush in my hand and over the years I’ve painted about 150 oil paintings, from local scenes to copies of famous paintings,” the 84-year-old said.

“I’ve painted everything from the Wye Bridge and the Victoria Bridge to copies of famous Picasso, Monet and Cezanne works.”

Colin is now looking to sell a number of the paintings, although he intends to keep hold of a few of his favourites.

“Now that I’m getting older I’m starting to think about what I’m going to do with them,” he added.

“I don’t think my daughters will want them all.”
