LANDSCAPING works have begun on the site of a new community hub in Wellington.
Wellington Parish Council is leading the £280,000 project to create the new facility on Chapel Field.
It has been helped by a £15,000 grant towards the external landscaping from the Veolia Environmental Trust through its landfill communities fund.
The hub will provide a community room with a volunteer-led library and facilities for a community café and internet access.
It will also provide space for the existing post office and village shop, Wellington Delights – saving it from closure as its existing premises are due for re-development.
Patio doors will lead from the community room onto a patio and paths will be installed to make all areas of the community hub accessible.
Trees and shrubs will be planted and it is hoped that the planting will be carried out in partnership with the local gardening group, local school children and other community groups.
