YOUNG people in Hereford are invited to see if they could be the next big thing in the art world.

Hereford College of Arts is searching for the Young Artist of the Year 2014, a competition open to artists aged five to 16.

The theme for the competition - which is in its second year - is dreams.

Cash and material prizes are on offer to winners of the competition, which is sponsored by Hereford Cathedral School, and winners will also have their work displayed at the college during the summer.

Grace Gallagher, creative careers development officer at the college, said: "The theme can be visualised in many different ways, and we welcome a range of entries. Last year we saw incredible paintings, drawings, illustrations, collages and prints and hundreds of people came to see the work at the exhibition.

"It’s a great opportunity for everyone to see the talent on show, and a real insight for our young artists into how arts organisations curate exhibitions among the booming creative industries.”

There are three age categories for the event - five to eight years, nine to 12 years and 13 to 16 years.

The deadline for entries is July 1 and full details on how to enter can be found by visiting www.hca.ac.uk.
