QUIRKY ideas from jelly tasting to a ‘Gross Facts Guidebook’ saw Presteigne museum The Judge’s Lodging named Best Hidden Gem the prestigious Hudson’s Heritage Awards.

Culture vulture Loyd Grossman presented the award in London last week to Gaby Rivers, the museum’s senior curator.

He was not alone in his praise of the Victorian courthouse; in January Prince Charles called the museum a “truly inspiring place”.

The smallest winner at the ceremony – The Judge’s Lodging was celebrated alongside the likes of Leeds Castle and Blenheim Palace – it was praised for immediately immersing visitors into the life of nineteenth century judges, and the household who lived there.

Ms Rivers said: “Staff at the museum are so proud of their building and what it has achieved so far this year.”
