New principal to take Newent school forward

First published in News

A new principal has been appointed at Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre.

Kirsten Harrison, who led the school out of special measures within a year, has been given the job permanently.

The news was announced to staff, parents and careers in April.

The school was judged by Ofsted inspectors to be good in all areas in January.

The report praised Mrs Harrison and said she had been key to improving the quality of teaching and achievement at the school.

Dave Pettit, the school's chairman of governors, said: "Kirsten is fully committed to the students within the school and during the last year has made improvements resulting in significant progress.

"Nationally, other schools have recognised this achievement, of moving from special measures to good in such a short period of time, and some have contacted her to learn lessons from her experience.

"We are, therefore, fortunate to retain her skills, commitment and energy and we look forward to a productive, creative and rewarding future for all involved with the school."
