THE First World War will be a strong and suitable theme for the annual Ledbury Art Society exhibition, which will be attracting crowds to the Burgage Hall this month.

This year is the centenary anniversary for the outbreak of World War Two, and members have chosen to honour the date with their talent.

Group spokesperson, Belinda Morgan said: "Every year we run a competition with a theme, where members submit a painting, the winner of which is then reproduced as posters and flyers to advertise our annual exhibition.

"This year the theme has been chosen to coincide with the Ledbury Poetry Festival's workshop theme 'The First World War'."

She added: "Ledbury and the surrounding area have plenty of talent, and nowhere is this better illustrated, than in the artwork produced by members of Ledbury Art Society.

"Our members come from a wide area including Malvern, Ross-on -Wye and Newent, and include leisure painters and semi - professional artist who sell in local shops and galleries.

"We use a wide variety of media, including oil, watercolour, acrylic, pastel and pen and ink and subjects range from botanical, landscape, seascape, animals and portraits."

Members meet in Ledbury on the first Tuesday of the month to enjoy a demonstration by a professional artist, and they try to hold outdoor painting days throughout the summer, weather permitting.

The society holds an exhibition every year this year's show in the Burgage Hall will be from Saturday May 24 until Monday May 26.

Opening times will be from 9am - 4.30 pm each day.

Members of the public will once again be able to vote for the "Best in Show", and a trophy in memory of former veteran member, Kath Manistre will be presented at the end.
