WALKERS in Leominster have another reason to get active after the town's new health walk scheme received national accreditation.

The Walking for Health scheme has been endorsed for the “quality of experience and support” that participants can expect when taking part in one of the three-weekly walks.

Run by the Ramblers and Macmillan Cancer Support, Walking for Health is a nationwide movement dedicated to improving the nation’s health through walking.

Leominster's Walking for Health scheme co-ordinator, Dennis Downey, said: “Our volunteer walk leaders help all sorts of people to enjoy the many health benefits that regular walking brings, providing support every step of the way."

Leominster Walking for Health runs walks that are no longer than 90 minutes in length, with at least one walk of less than 30 minutes every month.

The free walks start at Leominster Tourist Information Centre in Corn Square on Tuesdays at 11am and at 6.30pm on Wednesdays.

There is also a walk for visually impaired people on Wednesdays at 4pm.
