Sub-Station Disruption at Town Centre Car Park
9:45am Wednesday 28th May 2014 in News
THE building of a replacement electricity substation for Ledbury will lead to a temporary closure and brief disruption at a busy town centre car park.
Necessary disruption next month will include the temporary removal of cycle racks from St Katherine's car park and the temporary removal of disabled parking bays.
Herefordshire Council spokesperson, Lisa Sullivan said: "Work to prepare for the provision of a replacement electricity substation at the St Katherine’s car park site will commence on Monday June 2 and is expected to last for a maximum of 3 weeks.
"At the start of the works hoardings around the Master’s House will be adjusted to allow more space for bringing in heavy equipment and the existing cycle rack will be removed. Alternative cycle parking is already available in the town centre and a replacement cycle rack will be available for use on completion of the works."
She added: "St Katherine’s car park will be temporarily closed for line-marking on Sunday June 8. This work will include removal of accessible parking bays in the area where the new substation will be located and the provision of these accessible spaces elsewhere in the car park.
"Replacement accessible parking spaces will be indicated on site from this date."
From Monday June 9 there may also be occasions when pedestrian access from High street via the footpath at the back of the Feathers Hotel may not be possible but an alternative route will be signed.
Vehicular access from St Katherine’s car park to St Katherine’s Hall may also be disrupted at times.
But Herefordshire Council has stated that "every effort will be made to minimise disruption".
Once the new substation is in position, the old one will be decommissioned and the existing apparatus will be removed.
