A former Herefordshire policeman choked back tears today as he admitted having sex with two women while he was on duty as a constable.

Ian Langford of Church View, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, was a serving officer when he abused his position to befriend and have sexual relations with the two women.

He pleaded guilty at Gloucester Crown Court today to misconduct in public office in that "while acting as a constable you improperly used your office to engage in an acquaintanceship and intimate relationship and engage in sexual activity while on duty."

The charge relating to the first woman, from Hereford, was dated between 11th May and 1st August 2012 while the second charge, relating to a woman from Ledbury, was between 11th June 2012 and 30th June 2013.

As Langford said the word 'guilty' to each charge he was on the verge of tears.

Wearing glasses and with a short neatly trimmed beard Langford, who is tall and slim with greying hair, was dressed in a dark suit and tie.

Judge Jamie Tabor QC ruled that the two women with him Langford had relationships cannot be identified.

Simon Hunka, defending, asked for a pre-sentence report on Langord and Judge Tabor agreed. He adjourned sentence till 24th June and bailed Langford till then.

But he warned Langford not to expect anything other than a jail term.

"You are experienced enough to know what the likely sentence is going to be," said the judge.

He asked if Langford had been subjected to any disciplinary proceedings or suspension but Mr Hunka said he was no longer a serving officer.

The judge also asked if Langford had an exemplary record up until the offences but Mr Hunka said he had not.

"He was docked 13 days pay over a similar incident which was not taken to court," said Mr Hunka.
