A FUNDRAISING event in memory of a county soldier who died while walking back to camp is to be held next month.

Kurt Etheridge died aged just 21 when he was in collision with a lorry on the A1(M) near Darlington shortly after 3am in April 2012.

His family is next month set to raise funds in his memory for the Rifles' charity – Care For Casualties – which supports severely wounded rifleman and their families.

Kurt, who was a student at Kingstone High School, had completed his phase-one basic training in the Rifles and had a further 10wks of phase-two training to complete – due to pass out on August 17.

It was April 22 that he was killed in the tragic road traffic collision, and an inquest into Kurt's death later returned a verdict of accidental death.

Family and friends will be remembering their hero while raising funds for the charity that supports families like their own at a black-tie event next weekend.

The event takes place at the Three Counties Hotel in Hereford on Saturday June 7 at 6pm.

There will be a hot buffet dinner, an auction hosted by former Welsh Rugby player Iestyn Thomas and a raffle on the evening.

There are limited tickets available for the event but they can be bought for £20 by calling Kurt's dad Mark on 01981 540298.

Raffle tickets can also be bought for the evening by calling Mark, with all funds raised to be donated to the charity.

Kurt's family wish to thank all those who have donated prizes for the raffle and auction for the overwhelming support they have received.
