PROSPECTIVE prefects at Ledbury's John Masefield High School have been getting ready to welcome primary school pupils and their parents.

Next Thursday, the school is throwing open its doors to Year Five pupils who hope to be moving up to the high school in September.

The youngsters will have the chance to find out about life at John Masefield, taking part in lessons and playing sport.

And playing the vital role of welcoming them to the school will be John Masefield Year Ten pupils hoping to be selected as prefects.

Wendy Bradbeer of the school said: "The process for students to become prefects is challenging. Tutors and house leaders nominate students who have proven themselves to be conscientious, considerate and co-operative members of the school community.

"They are currently on a trial period and the Year 5 event is their first challenge."
