A HEREFORD man managed to snap a rare military plane flying over the city last week.

Stephen Harrison said that he spotted the B2 stealth bomber from his back garden in Geoffrey Avenue, near the railway station, last Tuesday evening.

"It was incredibly quiet and we thought at first it was a paraglider from a distance," said Mr Harrison.

"I just had time to grab my camera and zoom in.

"A colleague of mine also saw it fly over Kington on the same evening."

The aircraft is designed for penetrating dense anti-aircraft defences and is able to deploy both conventional and nuclear weapons.

The Hereford Times last week reported that a a substantial police escort passed through Herefordshire last week, which was believed to be a safety and security operation undertaken by Essex Police.

Nishan Wijeratne, press officer at Essex Police, said that military jets were deployed from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire and the exercise was part of on-going national emergency planning procedure testing.

However, he said that a stealth bomber was not part of part of the exercise.
