DANCERS armed with cameras, maps, phones and umbrellas will be popping up around Malvern and Ledbury for free, outdoor dance events.

Sightseers will see dancers across the West Midlands bring their area alive on Saturday, July 12 for Big Dance Week and Big Dance Weekend.

A group will pop up in Rose Bank Gardens, Belle Vue Terrace, Malvern at 1pm and The Walled Garden, off Church Street, Ledbury at 4pm.

Sightseers has been devised by David McKenna, artistic director of Beingfrank Physical Theatre, together with 21 dance artists.

Performances have been created with local dance groups in each of the districts and over 600 dancers in 31 groups of will be seeing the sights across the region, armed with cameras, maps, phones and umbrellas.

Mr McKenna said: “This project is unique as each of the dancers I have trained has gone on to use my ideas for their own performances in local communities, so they share a theme but are all very different, which makes it incredibly exciting.”

Work began on Sightseers in April with progress led by Dancefest, the dance development organisation for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, working in collaboration with dance companies in the region.

Dancefest was appointed to lead Big Dance in the West Midlands for the first time this year.
