A RECORD number of visitors descended on a Herefordshire village for a popular food and flying festival.

Aerial demonstrations, a display of historic aircraft and, of course, an array of food and drink kept the 5,000 visitors to the Shobdon Food and Flying Festival entertained.

Organisers say the event is likely to have raised a significant amount of money for charity.

"The weekend was a fantastic success with more visitors on Sunday than we’ve ever seen on a single day in 30 years of organising village fundraisers," said food festival organiser, Matt Teale.

"We’d like to thank all our wonderful volunteers as well as our generous sponsors, especially Bestparks, without whom we simply could not host an event of this size in Shobdon.

"We’d also, of course, like to thank everyone for coming."

Aerial demonstrations over the two days included a gyrocopter display and a visit by The Royal British Legion’s ‘Jump4Heroes’ parachute display team.

Historic aircraft, trial flights and helicopters also kept the crowds entertained along with cooking demonstrations, live music, arts and crafts, and vintage vehicles.

Food and drink on offer varied from speciality cheeses, wines and sausages to bespoke breads, confectionary, savouries and ciders.

"The Shobdon Food and Flying Festival was a record breaker for the Herefordshire Aero Club, with some fantastic air displays and classic aircraft on show," said Herefordshire Aero Club’s Marcus Woof.

"Over 70 aircraft from all over the UK flew in for the weekend to join in the fun, with some fantastic air displays and a charity parachute jump to thrill our visitors."
