COBBLES around the war memorial in Ledbury could soon be a thing of the past.
The town's war memorial working party is unanimous that cobbles around the memorial - many of which are missing or loose, should be replaced by flagstones.
The final decision, however, lies with Herefordshire Council and its contractor, Balfour Beatty.
Cllr Tony Bradford said: "We could retain the cobbles from the memorial to maintain Church Lane."
Cobbled Church Lane is one of the most photographed streets in town, and often features on calendars.
Cllr Allen Conway said he understood that extra funding might be available from Central Government to restore war memorials.
In response, Coun Martin Eager, chairing a meeting of the town's economic and leisure committee last week, said: "We must grab that with both hands."
