A COUNTY woman who recently celebrated turning 100 has been praised by her daughter for her "hard-working" nature.

Violet Maysey was born in 1914 and grew up in Allensmore before attending school in Pixley.

She was married in 1935 and brought her five children up in Hunderton, Hereford.

Part of the effort on the home front, she worked at Rotherwas during the conflict of the Second World War and later worked on the land in Herefordshire.

And it is her hard-working ethos that daughter, Sandra Ruff, remembers about her mum as she grew up.

She said: "She was very hard-working and was always about her children,

"She would even take up part time jobs so as we had everything we wanted.

"She has always been very family orientated. She used to take us on the land with her. We would help pick hops and whatnot so she could take home more money.

“She’s a very loving mother."

Grandmother of 11, great grandmother of 20 and great, great grandmother of one, Mrs Maysey was fond of bingo, knitting and crocheting when she was younger.

Mrs Maysey is now a resident at Newstead Nursing Home on Venn's Lane in Hereford, where she has been living since last August.

It was there that around 35 to 40 members of her family gathered to celebrate her turning 100.

She also received a card from the Queen in recognition of her special birthday.
