MORE than 200 children from across the county danced in glorious sunshine last week as part of a nationwide initiative to encourage people to take to the floor.

The students, from a number of Herefordshire primary schools along with students from Whitecross High School, took part in Dancefest's open air performance, Gold Star, to a large crowd.

The groups had all worked with Janene Wyatt, Dancefest’s Herefordshire dance worker, to create performance pieces with varied themes ranging from under the sea to WW1.

The aim of Gold Star was to showcase excellence and creativity within Herefordshire schools.

Ms Wyatt said: “I was so proud of every dancer that performed, we have definitely proven that Herefordshire schools are full of creative excellence and Dancefest really wanted the day to be about showcasing that creative wealth in dance.

"We’d like to say a big well done and congratulations to everyone who performed and here’s to next year."

Dancefest will be offering free taster sessions for schools in Herefordshire and Worcestershire to introduce its work and find out what's on offer.

Dancefest’s autumn term starts in September and there are a number of regular dance classes at The Courtyard for children, young people and adults.
