A LEOMINSTER auction is set to host what is thought to be the UK's biggest ever one-day sale of classic cars and motorcycles next week.

More than 180 cars and 35 motorcycles will go on sale at Brightwells on Wednesday (July 19) - ranging from a 1930 Lagonda three-litre Tourer which is estimated to fetch around £100,000 to the more modest £300 sought for a 1969 BSA Bantam bike.

“With this many vehicles on sale, there is sure to be something to appeal to every taste and budget,” said Brightwell’s classic car expert, James Dennison.

The sale includes 14 cars from the Stondon Motor Museum in Bedford which are all to be sold at no reserve, so the highest bid takes them.

These include a rare and desirable 1982 Maserati Kyalami, a 1950 Ford V8 Pilot police car and a vast 1969 Lincoln Continental MkIV four-door Sedan with rear-hinged ‘suicide’ doors.

“The range and quality of the machinery in the sale is quite astonishing for a provincial auction,” said Mr Dennison.

There are also a number of MGBs and Morris Minors, luxury ‘80s Mercs and BMWs at bargain basement prices.

Viewing is free on Tuesday July 15 from 9am to 7pm.

It costs £20 to buy the catalogue needed for admittance to the saleroom on Wednesday where proceedings start at 12 noon.
