Local author, Suzette Hill provided suspense and entertainment when she read from her crime novels at the recent Library Support Group coffee morning.

The event was held in St Katherine’s Hall, to raise funds for the purchase of books and to digitise local history records, such as local newspapers.

Library group spokesman, Jan Long said: "Information might well be lost to the public if this work remains incomplete."

She said of the event: "Home baked cakes and beverages were consumed and there were stalls to visit selling glassware, crafts, knitwear, jewellery and books

"Robert Waddington from the Library User Group announced that £300 had been raised for children’s books and during the morning he had signed up six new members all of whom wanted to show their practical support for the new library projects."

Mrs Long added: "Suzette shared with the rapt audience how she came to be a writer, and what had inspired her. The first book, of a quintet, 'A load of old bones', has humour as well as criminality, which remained prominent in the subsequent novels and her readings were often hilarious, coupled with page turning curiosity for the listeners, all of whom wanted to know “Who done it??”

The author, who lives in Ledbury, is herself keenly enthusiastic in her support for Ledbury Library.

She said: “With so many shop, pubs and libraries closing down around the country, it is remarkable that here in our town a new library is being opened. "This is a real triumph and a testament to the hard work and loyal dedication of the Ledbury Library Support Group."
