Over half of Hereford Cathedral School Sixth Form students achieved all A*-B grades, at A Level.

Ledbury-based student Darcey Jones celebrated today with the rest of her peers at Hereford Cathedral School as she learnt of her outstanding A Level results.

She recorded no grade less than an A, with an A* in English Language & Literature, and A’s in both History and Chemistry.

This year, almost a quarter of all Hereford Cathedral School A Level candidates achieved an A* or A grade in every exam that they took, with 54% of candidates achieving no grade less than a B. For the fourth year running no student failed an exam, and a fifth of all A Level subjects offered by the school recorded no grades less than a B. The Art and Music Departments are delighted that this is the fifth year running that their students have achieved all A*-B grades.

The school witnessed an increase in the percentage of A* grades with 19% of all grades achieved being at this highest level. In total, 48% of all grades achieved were at the A*-A grade, and over 75% of all grades achieved were B grade or above.

Four students secured all A* grades: Sophie Hammond achieved three A* grades, whilst Head of School, Serena Linley-Adams achieved four A* grades as did Captain of Rugby, Mitchell Henchoz and Ex-Chorister Oliver Layton. Oliver is the fourth student in a row, over successive years, to gain a place at Trinity Hall Cambridge and is expected to continue the long standing tradition of Hereford Cathedral School students gaining choral scholarships at either Oxford or Cambridge.

The AS results were also excellent with 79% of all grades achieved being A-C grade and 45% of all exams taken were awarded the top A grade.

Paul Smith, Hereford Cathedral School’s Headmaster said:

“I am delighted by our outstanding A Level results. These fantastic results are testament to all the hard work of our students, staff and parents. Our students can now proceed with confidence to the universities and careers of their choice.”

“Our A Level results have once again demonstrated the benefits of small class sizes, high expectations and the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular pursuits.”
