WEST Midlands Ambulance Service has confirmed that a woman died in a road collision near Canon Pyon this afternoon.

A man is also confirmed as seriously injured.

The victims, both believed to be in their 80s, were passenger and driver respectively in the same car.

That car was in collision with a lorry.

The lorry driver was unhurt

Emergency services were called to the collision on the A4110 just south of the village at 1pm.

Two air ambulance helicopters were also scrambled.

Paramedics worked on the woman before she was confirmed dead at the scene.

The driver was cut free from the car by firefighters and flown to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, with serious leg, chest and arm injuries.

Collision investigators are now at the scene and the road is currently closed with recovery work soon to start.
