BOSSES at Herefordshire Council have met today to discuss Hereford United's ongoing financial crisis.

The Bulls owe the authority about £65,000 in rent arrears, business rates and legal fees and have been assured by the club's owners since June that the money would be paid back in full.

This, as yet, has not materialised and prompted a meeting this morning led by council leader Cllr Tony Johnson.

Updating the council's cabinet this afternoon he said he accepts the matter is important to a lot of people.

"I'm aware of the amount of public interest," said Cllr Johnson.

"The council has to come to a decision to the point when it chooses whether to pursue money owed to it.

"There are a number of implications and the council has to protect its position in relation to protecting public assets."

He said a statement outlining the authority's position would be made public either tomorrow or early next week.
