A HEREFORDSHIRE high-achiever has been awarded a £3,000-a-year bursary towards her studies at Cambridge University.

Emma Flint, from Bartestree, was one of 10 students from across the West Midlands to be awarded the grant by exam body OCR – which can be used towards either tuition or living expenses.

A former Hereford Sixth Form student, Ms Flint is going on to reading linguistics at Selwyn College.

She said: “Receiving the bursary has been a huge weight off my mind – I can now begin my studies at Cambridge without financial pressures, allowing me to take full advantage of all the opportunities that university brings.

“I am really excited to learn a new language and to join as many societies as possible, in between working hard, which would not be possible without this bursary.

“I am incredibly grateful to OCR for making the prospect of university something to look forward to rather than worry about.”

OCR’s Liam Sammon said: “Our ten winners richly deserve their prizes.

“They have all demonstrated extremely high academic achievement, often in the face of adversity and challenges.”
