THE man who died after stepping in front of a train at Leominster railway station last Wednesday has been named as David Thompson, from Ludlow.

Mr Thompson, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene with British Transport Police calling the incident “an intentional act”.

Mr Thompson’s family has been informed, and an inquest was opened and adjourned on Monday by the coroner’s office in Hereford.

The incident occurred at around 3.30pm, just as nearby school Earl Mortimer College was closing for the day.

Mr Thompson was hit by a northbound train, closing the line for around six hours, while a specialist BTP team attended Leominster to finalise the investigation.

Inspector Andy Irwin Porter said: "It was an intentional act, he has stepped in front of the train.

"We are dealing with it as non-suspicious."

Mr Thompson is believed to have only recently moved to Ludlow, having come from the north of England.
