NEWENT will continue to pay tribute to its most famous son, with this year's Newent Music Festival and Joe Meek celebration.

The first celebration took place in 2007, and it has proved to be a popular event ever since.

Joe Meek was born in Newent, April 25, 1929, and he developed his producing skills through taking apart televisions and radios, until he was soon considered one of the world's foremost experts on sound technology.

Today, he is best remembered as the producer of the 1962 hit Telstar by The Tornados.

This years festival will now take place in Newent on the weekend of October 10 and 11.

Events will include live performances by the Cinderford group "Them Two" under the Market House during Saturday together with a display of classic cars and motorcycles.

There will also be a talk, video and exhibition of Joe Meek's equipment and memorabilia.

This event, The Life and Times of Joe Meek, will be given by his niece, Sandra Meek-Williams.

There will also be a walk around Joe Meek's Newent.

The event continues with a concert and dance on Saturday evening in Newent Community School from 7pm - 11pm, with a fully licensed bar.

The concert features "The Disciples" as support group, and the main act will be, "The Rapiers", an internationally acclaimed "Shadows Tribute Band." .

In the past they have played at the London Palladium, and appeared with Sir Cliff Richard, Sir Paul McCartney and Jeff Beck and have also worked with Jet Harris, Rick Wakeman and the late George Harrison.
