A HAIRDRESSER has hung up her scissors after cutting Weobley residents' hair for the past 42 years.

Rena Fenn, 69, opened Rena's behind the antiques shop in Broad Street, Weobley and over the years has expanded, including opening a salon in Leominster.

But she decided it was time to let "the youngsters" have a go and last week Rena's opened as Hair @ No 1 with Andrea Stokes in charge.

Mrs Fenn said: "I have absolutely loved it. I am sad to give up. It is the customers. They have become friends, not just customers.

"I had customers there who have been with me from the day I started. That was hard- leaving them."

Mrs Fenn also handed over the running of the Leominster shop to the manageress.

She said: "It was a big day for me but I am very pleased with the girls who have taken it on- I know it is in safe hands."

Mrs Fenn is looking forward to her retirement with husband, Michael, and spending time with her two children and two grandchildren.

Miss Stokes previously ran a salon from her home in Eardisley.

The 40-year-old, who also runs Zumba classes, has given the salon a new look but said: "The girls [current staff] have been there a while and it has been working for Rena, so why change?

"I have got to be aware- customers have got to be happy. I am looking forward to it- it is a new challenge, with the family as well."

She has three sons- Ellis, nine, Lucas, five and Louis, three with partner, Stephen Dick.
