A NEW training centre which helps Hereford’s youngsters secure practical qualifications held its official opening last week.

Horizon Training is part of the Plynlimon Trust charity, and offers City and Guild courses for 16- to 19-year-olds, with adult classes being added in the new year.

The Whitecross Road centre was set up in the summer by Patricia Hales to help fill the hole left by the closure of the Community Service Volunteers training centre in the city.

Horizon offers vocational in subjects like beauty, construction, catering, retail and business administration as well as in maths and English.

Hereford mayor Len Tawn and Hereford and South Herefordshire MP Jesse Norman officially opened the new facility on Friday, although classes have been running since the start of the academic year.
